Her Story

Cathy is a certified practicing Speech Pathologist, registered with Speech Pathology Australia. Graduating in 2009 from Trinity College Dublin, she has gained extensive experience in both the United Kingdom and Australia, working in school and clinic settings. Cathy provides speech, language, and communication intervention to a diverse paediatric client group, offering experience in both telehealth and outreach services.

Dedicated to client-centred therapy and meaningful communication goals, Cathy particularly enjoys collaborating with young people and their families. As a neurodiversity-affirming clinician, she advocates for strengths-based and interest-led approaches.

Cathy has a keen interest in Selective Mutism, having completed specialised training in this area. She values interdisciplinary collaboration, often working alongside Psychologists and other allied health professionals to foster communication skills within the context of emotional well-being.

When not at the Selective Mutism Clinic, Cathy supports paediatric clients comprehensively in speech, language, and literacy. As a Hanen-certified practitioner, she actively engages in teaching parents effective strategies for supporting early language development. Cathy is actively involved in school-based interventions, supporting students and collaborating with educators. She finds particular joy in working with her expanding caseload of teenagers, addressing communication expectations related to school, friendships, and technology.

WHY I’M IN THIS LINE OF WORK

I have always been fascinated with communication and the science behind it. I love getting to know new clients and their families and working with their individual circumstances. Seeing children and young people blossom and find their voices is extremely rewarding.

ONE THING NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT ME

I cannot walk through a shop (or browse online) without checking out new games and activities to use in therapy sessions.
