A face-to-face assessment can be beneficial because it allows the therapist to meet you and observe your child’s level of anxiety. The therapist can also demonstrate how to conduct one of the main treatment strategies to you in that session. However, we recognise that the cost of airfares and accommodation for a family can be expensive, and our program is just as successful for those families who do not have a face-to-face assessment. We have many therapists only working via telehealth, seeing children with Selective Mutism as young as 3, and they are getting fantastic results with helping children eventually to talk to them freely.
