"Asking for help is a strength, not a weakness."

Her Story

As a Clinical Psychologist Registrar, Cheryl values forming a warm connection with the young people she works with as a basis for integrating evidence-based psychological therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Mindfulness based therapies.  She is experienced in working with young people with neurological conditions and applies specialised adaptations to psychological therapies to suit people with cognitive-behavioural impairments.

Cheryl has worked with children and adolescents who have had an acquired brain injury (including traumatic brain injury, stroke, infections) and their families for over 15 years. Through a collaborative approach, she is passionate about supporting young people to manage the effects of the injury and reach their treatment goals.

Cheryl has worked in public and private health settings with children and adults with a range of health concerns, including social anxiety, generalised anxiety, separation anxiety, stress management, low mood, behavioural and attention difficulties, chronic health issues, social skills and selective mutism. She currently receives ongoing supervision and training in the treatment of selective mutism from the Centre Director.

In addition to working as a therapist, Cheryl is an experienced clinician researcher who actively contributes to scientific literature in the field of recovery after acquired brain injury. She is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research and works on a range of research projects within the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network.

Cheryl has a Masters of Clinical Psychology and PhD in Psychology. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, Australian Association for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and World Federation for Neuro-rehabilitation – Neuropsychological Rehabilitation Special Interest Group. She holds full registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA; Reg. #: PSY0001130120).
